Waiting

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Romans 11:34-35

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. Hebrews 1:3

Happy Advent to all! Are you enjoying the Season? Got your home prettied up, taking part in special traditions?

We have our tree and our stockings and each night we're reading scriptures by candlelight from Ann Voskamp's Jesse Tree Advent devotionals. A side note: we had to take away from the kids the "privilege" of being the one to light the candles. It was all they could think about, and made it awfully hard for each of us to focus on Jesus in the readings. So now BB and I light, and BB and I blow out.

The above scriptures are there because I need to be reminded, often, of God's sovereign, perfect, providential ordering of my life, and of everything else in the universe. How DOES He do that?! Amazing. One of the many Reasons to fall down in worship!

This day finds our family in a difficult place of waiting. It's a place we've visited many times before. We would very much appreciate your prayers, in fact! We want to please Christ in all things: in the known and unknown, in waiting and in culmination, in the giving and the taking away, and so on. I look forward very much to the day that I can elaborate.

Until then, (and beyond, of course), we make it our goal to worship Him, trusting His plan, His timing, His amazing, powerful, providential care and plans.

On a lighter note, inspired by Ten on Ten, I decided to try taking a photo once an hour for 10 hours. You're supposed to do it on the 10th of the month, but oh well, I totally forgot. I mostly thought it would be neat to see what caught my eye each hour of a normal day. Oh, and I certainly wasn't taking these exactly an hour apart...just did the best I could. So my effort could be called Ten on the Eleventh, Taken in about Eleven and a Half or Twelve Hours. Hmm, not as catchy. Oh well. Here you go. It was a Saturday, by the way:

6am - Feed the baby

7am - Baby color

8am - for LC, CA, and me

9am - Sisters rolling on the floor

10am - Appointment reminders

11am - One of the appointments. This one taken with my phone, since I forgot my camera.

12 o'clock - Still out on errands after haircuts, another phone photo

1pm - Noticed how the nandenas have turned gorgeous red

2pm - Nap with CA, who insisted on pink tights under jeans, then played outside in them

3pm - Symbolic of our life: colorful, varied, messy, often-off-balance, beautiful, and a Gift (these were painted, given to us by BB's mother)

562 messy countertops - always: acorns, empty boxes of Nerds, bouncy balls, mail, keys, phones...

563 the barely there pad of super blonde hair that CJ is sporting

564 the hum of the dishwasher

565 spaghetti soup

566 spices

567 the relief that a little tidying can bring

568 clean bibs

569 azure sky behind blazing red leaves outside my kitchen window

570 my friend, showing up unexpectedly at the door with a salted caramel hot chocolate for me on this long day...what a blessing, the kind thought!

  1. Praying with you.

LOVE the photos, all of them. My favorite is the haircut photo because the composition, colors, and perspective are perfect. What a great moment. The cowboy boots MAKE that photo!

  6. Hey Beth -- I love doing Advent with my girls, too. Hope your family had a good Christmas!

PS: I also like Ann Voskamp. Found her via the incourage blog. A favorite post of hers from a few weeks ago had this, "Because our story is who we are, and if we deny it, we deny not only our own selves – we deny the very Author Who’s writing this redemptive epic.”
