Laugh or Cry?

Well, my friends, I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry today. This was our last official homeschool day of this year. Our last Crazy Wednesday! A combination of factors has rendered me pretty much unable to write anything close to a thoughtful post: details of the last week of school; my rather sudden dive into way-tired, feeling way-big; preparing for a trip East on Friday (after the big girls have their final day at school tomorrow)....

But I want to thank the Lord for His sustaining strength over this past year; for His giving wisdom when I cried for it, for helping us to finish well. This was not an easy year by any stretch, but it certainly was a good one. I am proud of the girls' hard work and pleased with what we've all learned.

LC was the last one today to finish a bit of schoolwork (and they will have a little over the summer in order to keep everyone from forgetting the basics), and after I sent her along to play, I sat there for a minute and took a deep breath. Bittersweet? Mostly sweet, I'd say, but definitely a time-is-a-flying milestone: finishing 3rd grade, 2nd grade, and kindergarten!

I took pictures of some of our much-used resources, just for fun, for memories...

Oh, and my super-hero programming husband wrote a photo-collage-making program for me to use. Obviously, this would have been a good day to try it out, since I posted 8 photos. Tonight, though, I'm headed to bed, since I've polished off my little tiny $1 no-guilt tub of Dreyer's Double Fudge Brownie ice cream (no-guilt, only because it's so itty-bitty).

Have a great weekend, and know that I appreciate you stopping in here and that I pray for you!

Oh, and one more thing: I could not have finished well this year, I could not have done this year without the help and kindness and support and patience and servant-heart of my sweet BB, who on many days has bathed the girls, cooked the supper, told me to go take some time alone, has been patient with long schooldays, less-than-well-planned meals, evening sickness, and so on...and so on...talk about a Mercy from God...

  1. Congratulations for making it another year!

What would we do without our loving husbands to help us-I think you would find me at the local nut house :)

  2. "The End" -- a very appropriate last photo. Praise God, you made it through the year, and did it with faithfulness and excellence. I thought of you yesterday having your last crazy Wednesday for a while.

  3. Keep up the good work!! I noticed you use all about spelling. I switched to it this year and LOVE IT!!!! Wish I had known about it previous years. What do you use for bible, history, or science?

Isn't it crazy to think of our oldest going into 4th grade? seems impossible!!!

  4. RC: I LOVE All About Spelling, too! It's GREAT!

For Bible, each girl just has her own Bible study that she/we work through, or they read through a book of the Bible and sometimes draw pictures of each chapter. For LC, who's not a solid reader yet, we have a little book with scripture and an applicable story that we read (from Rod and Staff Publishers). And we read the Word at each meal together.

The big girls get science on Tues and Thurs at their school - I was very happy with EG's science: she had CHEMISTRY! I'll do a very simple earth science with LC at home for first grade next year.

History: the big girls are doing Story of the World at school. I'm trying to decide whether to do that w/LC for first or use my Tapestry of Grace Year 1 stuff for her.

    And yes, 4th GRADE? What?!
