Welcome, Summer!

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

"Everything we do in obedience to God, no matter how small, is significant. It is part of a cosmic mosaic that God is painting to display the greatness of His power and wisdom to the world and to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places." John Piper, A Sweet and Bitter Providence

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ. And so through Him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 1:20-22

I hope that everyone is enjoying the beginning of summer and flip flop feet, painted toenails and splashing in water. After many miles and a fun overnight stop to visit BB's brother and his family, we're here for the week, catching up with our families and a few friends.

The big two girls had their last day of school, which was lots of fun, of course. EG's class was treated to an ice cream sundae party because all of them passed their multiplication tests throughout the schoolyear. MK's class got pizza for lunch as a "class birthday celebration." I was able to go back and forth between the classes pretty easily and catch most of the action. The only bummer: in all the collecting of odds and ends that we did on the way out, I sat my camera down somewhere and then left it at the school! At least it's not truly lost...

After over 1,000 miles of driving and a good and busy school-year it is a blessing to be here, with no real schedule, no big hurry in the mornings.

Once we are back at home, there are only a few things planned before Baby is due: swim lessons for the big three girls, getting us all ready for the next schoolyear (think ordering books, getting school supplies, etc, so that I don't have to think about that in the month that will be left of summer after the baby comes), and then my younger three all have birthdays between July 4 and August 1. That's quite enough for me!

What are you doing this summer? Special trips, activities? Just relaxing and having an un-planned couple of months?

  2. I'm amazed at how quickly our summer is filling up too.
Do you homeschool and have a co-op too? Just curious.

  3. Margo, our oldest two girls attend a university model-style school. A simple explanation would be that the teachers write up the lesson plans and the homework assignments, and teach the core academics at school two days a week (8am-230pm, and when you get to 5th grade, it goes to 3 days a week). Then, mom homeschools on the other days of the week. It's kind of a homeschool/private school hybrid. It requires really good communication between co-teachers (the at-school teacher and the mom). It has been a blessing to our family, allowing the girls a broader academic "menu," but still keeping them at home most of the time, which we love and prefer right now.

One other thing is this: our thinking on education is "whatever each child needs each year," doing our best to follow God's will for our kids and family. That said, the big two girls will "go to school" again this year, but LC, who's entering 1st grade, will stay home and we'll do straight up homeschooling, because that's what she needs at this point. I'm looking forward to it.

Anyway, I hope that all made sense!

  4. Yes, it did. I'd never heard of this model and it sounds really neat. I don't think I could do straight up homeschooling, but at this point, we're taking it one year at a time and seeking God's best.
