Grace Laced Mondays: Fried Pie & the Grace of Delight

So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.
Matthew 7:11

God sure does give good gifts. Sometimes they come wrapped in confusing or painful packages. Then, other times, He just delights

I'm thanking Jesus today for the delight and blessing of having had a special birthday. BB is beyond thoughtful. The Lord is beyond kind for giving me this husband and family and friends.

One of many thoughtful gestures on BB's part: making me a birthday treat that knocked my socks off! He's never been one to shy away from trying a recipe. Good thing. This year he made fried pies. Oh, heavens. I'd pass you some, but every crumb is gone. Unbelievably, perfectly delicious. Blackberry. Mmm, hmm!

I had an I wish I was a food stylist moment when he gave me my pie and I tasted it. I put ice cream on it after I took the photo and then kicked myself for not getting the lovely dessert's picture with melting vanilla dripping down...

My children also worked hard to surprise and bless me for my birthday: they put together a little production of A Midsummer Night's Dream because they realized I did not know the story and had never seen the play. The girls created a script (from a children's version we have); chose roles, practiced, figured out costumes, made a banner, and acted. Aren't they the best?

Isn't our Savior the best? The Matthew scripture above promises that God gives good gifts to those who ask. And so very often, He gives when we have not asked.

Praise God for this grace of delight. I do not deserve it. I don't deserve anything. But He loves me. And He gave me a sweet, memorable, refreshing birthday. Thanks be to God.
