We Got Ours! (plus a little p.s.)

Can you guess why my children are THIS happy today??

God's voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, 'Fall on the earth,'
and to the rain shower, 'Be a mighty downpour.'
So that all men he has made may know his work,
he stops every man from his labor. Job 37:5-7

Yes, my friends, wonder of wonders - we have SNOW in central Texas. What a delightful blessing! Let me introduce you to our snow person. MK says his name is Tom. "Hook 'Em," is what Tom says.

I'm very drawn to photograph nature...oh my - red berries and snow? It's too much! What a happy thing!

MK - a snowball as big as her head. This will probably never happen again.

LC snowballing, too. We've had to scrounge around today just to have enough gloves and jackets to accomodate the weather. We simply don't own cold-weather clothing! Oh, and I've put all their things in the dryer twice today, so they could head back out in dry clothes.

The ivy in my planter box has had this pretty variegated look since the weather got cool, but isn't it grand against the snow?

Cue the angel choir....haaaaaa-leluia!

CA, mostly oblivious to the cold, called to me from the girls' fort: "I tan't det down, Mommy!" (slick slide, slick steps). I rescued the cutie, of course.

Well, I do not know where to start, really, with describing what a delightful, precious day this has been...what a fun, sweet gift from the Lord! We'd heard we might get snow, but really, we do not take such predictions seriously. Just never pans out. Well, today it did. It's been snowing all day and it has been so lovely.

My big two girls go to school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I got them up and ready as usual. BB and I planned to take them to school together, then go with the younger two to my mid-term ultrasound appointment, provided the roads, and the doctor's office were not closed. At 7am we were notified that the girls' school would be closed today. We decided not to tell them about the school cancellation, but rather to zip away for a surprise breakfast out.

What a dreamy and rare thing it was to eat our morning meal while watching enormous flakes fall outside. The girls were so happy and we took great joy in their joy. Everyone in town is excited, of course!

Providential timing, indeed - no school meant all the girls got to come to the ultrasound, which was not cancelled, as all the roads remained open. What a treat for them to see their sibling on the big screen!

Without further ado, take a peek at #5:

A nice profile...I'd never seen such a defined umbilical cord.
This was really my favorite - the two feet very visible - you can just about count the toes.

After the ultrasound, we came home and of course, the kids were out the door right away, dressed as warmly as we could manage. The snow was very moist, so it made good snowballs and snowmen.

Once they were soaked and ready to thaw, the children came inside. We put the clothes in the dryer and sat down for some hot chocolate with whipped cream, which one just has to have on a snowy (or very cold) day!

The rest of the day was a cycle of outside play, thawing, a little homework, devotions, and Looney Tunes.

It is getting dark now. No more snow forecasted, but the roads will be a mess tomorrow, as we're expecting a freeze overnight.

So, the whole day was one big mercy (they all are, really) - snow, no school, ultrasounds with the whole family present, hot chocolate, snowmen...

All I can say is Thank You, Father, for sending such amazing gifts to us your children!

p.s. on top of all this...right here at 7pm, UPS rang the doorbell and delivered a surprise package for the children from faraway grandparents...a magical day, to say the least!

  1. I love the delighted expressions on their faces. I'm so glad you got the snow. This has been such a weird winter weather year. The girls will remember today with delight. Their snowman is great. Little...brother...sister looks perfect. Love those tiny toes.

  2. I'm grinning and delighting in YOUR delight... as I'm sure the Father (of all good gifts) is too!

  3. You started blogging again!!! I am so thrilled!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations on number 5... guessing you did not find out the gender? Yay for snow! We have had quite a bit of snow here lately. Amazing every time and so very thankful when God blesses us with snow! Of course, I am trying to update my blog so I will get to all the snow days we have had! Glad to catch up with you again!

  4. How wonderful for you!! I'm so glad you had snow - truly, there is nothing like the feeling of a snow day, cancelling obligations and yet so very very pretty. I love to hear how your girls enjoyed the snow too :) It's a little magic that you will have fun telling for years. . .

    Sweet photos of #5 too.
